Dear Mr. Leung

My name is Evgeni Metodiev and I am from Bulgaria, which is situated in Eastern Europe. I have myopia from 8 years. I am 22 years old and my prescription is -6.5D on both eyes.

No one in my family have myopia. When eye doctors find that I have myopia I was 14 years ?3.00 D which reach -6.5D when I was 19 years old.

Before a month ?/span>I ?/span>went to a ?/span>doctor for a thorough examination of my retina. The doctors found 2 ruptures( small spots in the blind part of the eye) in my right eye and correct them with a laser.

All this change my life because my doctor said that nearsighted people are more threatened from retinal detachment and problems with retina. That awful!

Until 20 I was practicing shotokan karate and participated in many competitions. As I went to the university I stop to compete and began to combine karate and fitness in order to keep in form.

So I began to search information how to improve my sight naturally. I find the book of Dr. Bates and it encouraged me. I would like to order also the book- the Program for Better Vision: How to See Better in Minutes a Day Without Glasses or Contacts!? span style="mso-spacerun: yes">?by Martin Sussman. What is your opinion about this book and will it help me to improve my vision? What do you think about http://www.themyopia.com/ and their program? Is it more effective? I am not a reach one but if you recommend me their device I will order it. Is there more effective way?

What is your opinion about my case? I think that when my myopia becomes lessen the tension on retina will also become smaller thus helping me to prevent further ruptures and even detachment of retina. I think that when myopia becomes lower the form of eyeball will also change and normalize tension on retina. Is that true or the elongated form of the eyeball remains even when myopia becomes lower and problems with retina remain?

How I can understand what type of myopia I have- organic or functional?

I hope that you can help and tell me more about my condition impartially. You are my last hope to improve my vision naturally because in my country no one believes in that.

I will be waiting for your answer.

Best regards

Evgeni Metodiev

Dear Evgeni Metodiev,

The major goal of Dr. Bates' idea is relaxation of your tightened eye muscles. The method works effective at the early stage of myopia when you were young, -- probably a case of functional myopia. However, after wearing glasses for 8 years, apparently a large part of your myopia is the result of over-elongation of eyeball--i.e axial or structural myopia. I have no idea about the nature of your myopia.

Anyway, it can be confirmed by ultra-sound scanning if you wish.

Once the elongation of the axial length has ocurred, there is no means to shorten it other than banding surgery on the surface of cornea for the purpose to reduce amount of myopia.

Before purchase anything, visit www.i-see.org under library about whole set of Dr. Bates' book. Don't miss it!

I have no idea about the devices you mentioned.

Relaxation of eye muscles beneficial to spastic myopia (they are the first sign of myopia, early stages), and preventing from getting worse case. For your case and young age, you should think the way to prevent your vision from deteriorating. Your eyes have to be used for many many years.

Do you know "modern civiliation"  creates a great masses of neasightedness? Because we spent a lot at computer and close work which the eye is not designed for.

Please think in depth about the idea to use PLUS lens at time of your close work to relax tension of the focusing muscles. There are many links at the site to those web sites advocate PLUS lens for prevention.

The concept of plus is to reduce your regular minus glasses.

You have to consider using a WEAKER minus glasses for your nearwork.

Yes, the lesser tension within eyeball, the lower risk retina tears off itself! Take care of your own personal visual and health welfare in the long run.
